“VALID FOR THE 2023 OR 2024 SEASON BASED ON AVAILABILITY” “CALL TO BOOK YOUR TRIP. OTHERS MAY BE ADDED TO YOUR TRIP PACKAGE AT NORMAL RATES” Black Bear Lodge is a drive in outpost fishing camp located 250 miles north of International Falls, Minnesota. It is about 20 miles west of the town of Red Lake, Ontario. Black Bear Lodge was established over 70 years ago with the idea of providing a realistically priced fishing vacation package to those interested in catching Lake Trout, Walleye, Northern Pike, and Muskie. We also offer spring and fall bear hunts. Our camp is situated on a sheltered bay at the West end of Red Lake. Black Bear Lodge is one of only two camps located at the end of this 43,680 acre lake, which means you can spend the day fishing without having to share your hot spot with other boaters. The fishing on our end of the lake gets better every year. You may also explore one of our 5-7 portage lakes. Most of these lakes are exclusive to Black Bear guests, providing you with an additional opportunity to boat that trophy of a lifetime. Even though Black Bear Lodge is located in the heart of the Canadian bush country, you do not need to charter a floatplane to reach us. You can drive right to camp. After you leave the town of Red Lake, you will proceed another 25 miles west. The last 12 miles of your trip will be down a maintained logging road and will take you to our parking area. The last phase of your trip will be down an old trappers portage, which was also used to haul gold out of the near by mines. Our goal is to try and preserve some of the traditions and feel of a true Canadian wilderness camp, so after you unload we ask you to park in the parking area. Also, because Black Bear Lodge is considered an outpost camp, there is no RUNNING WATER, OR INDOOR TOILETS in the cabins. The cabins are equipped with oil burning stoves, battery operated or electric lights and bunk beds with foam mattresses. We do have a shower house with hot and cold water, a main lodge with water and electricity, and a fish cleaning house with water, electricity, and ice machines. (Please let us know if we need to accommodate you to use a CPAP machine). A note from Cherokees to Oshkosh: Our annual online auction is raising money to support our Mass Arrival. All auction proceeds will go directly to support Cherokees to Oshkosh. Thank you to all of the generous donors. Our group is about one thing: getting dozens of Piper Cherokee owners safely into Oshkosh together, to enjoy EAA’s Airventure, the world’s biggest airshow. Since our start in 2010, the majority of our pilots and their families have returned with us numerous times even though many at first planned for a one-time “bucket list” experience. Their continued involvement is driven by the deep friendships which have developed through the adventure of flying safely with a large group of pilots with a shared love for our airplanes. What makes the Mass arrivals unique, is a set of procedures that are written to ensure a safe and orderly flow of the mass arrival of the Cherokees 2 Oshkosh, Inc. flight to EAA AirVenture each year, versus a “free for all” arrival otherwise. The Cherokees to OSH “mass arrival” is not an event – it’s a process. For dozens of planes to depart and arrive safely, the group must have the right safety-focused attitude and be properly trained. It requires flying in formation with other planes – something most pilots have never done. The formation flying we do is simple to learn but requires some skill development. We’re not putting on an airshow – we’re flying to one. This requires some “book work” and actual in-the-airplane training and practice. Although the group has evolved into a “family” of fliers who enjoy this type of flying, our procedures are definitely intended to enable the one-time “bucket list” trip to AirVenture to be a fun and safe event. The process starts well before July’s AirVenture and includes a review of the presentations, followed by attendance at a “mini-clinic”. Only those who reach a safe level of skill flying the CtO formation procedures will be able to join the Mass Arrival. For more info, check out www.cherokees2osh.com
